چکیده

Traditionally, modelling using spline curves and surfaces is facilitated by control points. We propose to enhance the modelling process by the use of control vectors. This improves upon existing spline representations by providing such facilities as modelling with local (semi-sharp) creases, vanishing and diagonal features, and hierarchical editing. While our prime interest is in surfaces, most of the ideas are more simply described in the curve context. We demonstrate the advantages provided by control vectors on several curve and surface examples and explore avenues for future research on control vectors in the contexts of geometric modelling and finite element analysis based on splines, and B-splines and subdivision in particular. © 2014 The Authors. Approximation of vectors fields by thin plate splines with tension

We study a vectorial approximation problem based on thin plate splines with tension involving two positive parameters: one for the control of the oscillations and the other for the control of the divergence and rotational components of the field. The existence and uniqueness of the solution are proved and the solution is explicitly given. As special cases, we study the limit problems as the par...

Spline Curve Approximation and Design by Optimal Control over the Knots Using Genetic Algorithms

In [1] Optimal Control methods over re-parametrization for curve and surface design were introduced. The advantage of Optimal Control over Global Minimization such as in [23] is that it can handle both approximation and interpolation. Moreover a cost function is introduced to implement a design objective (shortest curve, smoothest one etc...). The present work introduces the Optimal Control ove...

A Construction of Bi orthogonal Functions to B splines with Multiple Knots

We present a construction of a re nable compactly supported vector of functions which is bi orthogonal to the vector of B splines of a given degree with multiple knots at the integers with prescribed multiplicity The construction is based on Hermite interpolatory subdivision schemes and on the relation between B splines and divided di erences The bi orthogonal vector of functions is shown to be...

A FILTERED B-SPLINE MODEL OF SCANNED DIGITAL IMAGES

We present an approach for modeling and filtering digitally scanned images. The digital contour of an image is segmented to identify the linear segments, the nonlinear segments and critical corners. The nonlinear segments are modeled by B-splines. To remove the contour noise, we propose a weighted least q m s model to account for both the fitness of the splines as well as their approximate cur...
